The Mission Filter
is unique in that it works on very simple filtration principles and
is a gravity fed system.
STEP ONE: In step one, the source water whether it
be a puddle, stream, river, well, or tap is sanitized using typically
one tablespoon of common househould bleach. The source water is either
poured into a seperate bucket or into the Mission Filter if using
the dowel rod setup. One tablespoon of household bleach is introduced
into the water and is allowed to sit for 60 minutes to allow adequate
sanitation. This step typically takes care of virii and bacteria as
well as other elements and minerals found in the water.
STEP TWO:
After 60 minutes, the source water is poured into the top
bucket of the Mission Filter and it begins to filter through the 1
micron string filter in the top bucket. Because this system is not
under pressure and is gravity fed, the 1 micron string filter is capable
of filter cryptosporidium and giardia from the water.
STEP THREE:
After the water filters through the string filter in the top bucket,
it makes its way through a nipple between the two buckets into the
inline carbon filter in the bottom bucket. In this step the carbon
inline removes over 70+ contaminants including chlorine, bad tastes,
odors, pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides.
STEP FOUR:
Clean drinkable water is now available through the spigot on the side
of the bottom bucket.
